Good news (mainly for mobile development). I have subscription (Delphi Prof) and don't even install it for two years (I love Lazarus IDE and progress). But missing new features like variables inside blocks and in loop ...

I hope it will make positive impact for both lazarus and delphi community.

It will undoubtedly make a positive impact on the Lazarus/FPC community for anyone beyond a hobbyist who bothers to read the license agreement here:

Search for "LICENSE TERMS APPLICABLE"

(Windows 64-bit install w/Win32 and Linux/Arm cross-compiles via FpcUpDeluxe on both instances)

My Systems: Windows 10/11 Pro x64 (Current)

well they need to make a living......at least the promise to give you another 1 year license when your first one expires.

but I will take some time to figure out how unicode works there, Lazarus's default UTF8 is working nice with me.

Too many restrictions and limitations of the free one.

Many things not included, and the $5000 income limit is pretty harsh as well.

Contrast with Visual Studio Community Edition terms:

I doubt if Delphi's income limit would affect very many here.

Is it still 32bit only, despite of fact, that 32bit is considered to be obsoleted now, or 64bit support is included into free edition now?
Is it healthy for project not to have regular stable releases?
Just for fun: Code::Blocks, GCC 13 and DOS - is it possible?

Why don't you research this and report back?

What I currently see - is that it's the same, as Starter (even some URLs still mention Starter), and Starter was 32bit only. Without 64bit support this edition is nothing more, than very limited trial version for demo projects only, cuz any real serious project should support 64bit now.

Are you just lazy?

https://www.embarcadero.com/docs/rad-studio-feature-matrix.pdf
Yeah, I've already found this. Now I'm in doubts. All limits are removed and now I can use CE versions of latest Delphi/C++ Builder for my personal projects, cuz I can't use Lazarus for them due to lack of D2009 support. But... I still don't want to mess with this thing. Still want to wait till it will become Free/OpenSource some day.

Contrast with Visual Studio Community Edition terms:

https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/license-terms/mlt553321/

Those are much better terms, especially here:

Quote
If you are an enterprise, your employees and contractors may not use the software to develop or test your applications, except for: (i) open source; (ii) Visual Studio extensions; (iii) device drivers for the Windows operating system; and, (iv) education purposes as permitted above.

An “enterprise” is any organization and its affiliates who collectively have either (a) more than 250 PCs or users or (b) one million U.S. dollars (or the equivalent in other currencies) in annual revenues, and “affiliates” means those entities that control (via majority ownership), are controlled by, or are under common control with an organization.

I doubt if Delphi's income limit would affect very many here.

I'l bet it would.

If you are anyone other than a hobbiest, then they (Embarcadaro) count any revenue you get from selling or donations against that $5000.

Quote
The Community Edition license applies solely if Licensee cumulative annual revenue (of the for-profit organization, the government entity or the individual developer) or any donations (of the non-profit organization) does not exceed USD $5,000.00 (or the equivalent in other currencies) (the "Threshold"). If Licensee is an individual developer, the revenue of all contract work performed by developer in one calendar year may not exceed the Threshold (whether or not the Community Edition is used for all projects).

Basically, Embarcadaro's view is, "if you can come up with $5000.00 in donations, sales, other revenue, allowance, or from your mattress, you're not eligible for our community edition.

You're not reading that correctly. Donations apply only non-profit organizations. Individual developers need only look at annual revenue and contract work. Pretty simple: if you're a professional developer, you get the professional edition.

You could be a professional developer, or freelancer that does a limited amount of work in Delphi, but even your non-Delphi projects would count to the $5000.

My earlier statements stand.
